| Title: | Real°Pac's Realpac2.Dot not getting attached during Word Startup | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Keywords: | Word, RealPac2.Dot, Automation | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Scope: | All Sites running any Microsoft Office product and Real°Pac | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Release: | All | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Description: | When viewing the Word window, under any context (whether running Real°Pac at the time or not), the special Real°Pac Toolbar does not appear anywhere, NOR does the Real°Pac pull-down menu appear. Checking under Tools, Templates and Add-Ins, in Word, does NOT show "Realpac2.dot" as an available template choice. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Resolution: | First, determine the version of Word you are running (if you are not sure). Pull down
Word's Help menu, and choose About Microsoft Word. Depending on your version, please refer to the table below.
For Word 2.0c only: Integration with this particular version of Word is achieved not thru the template file Realpac2.Dot, but thru a Uni*Comp-modified version of the file Autoexec.Dot. This file must reside in the same folder or directory (typically "Winword2") where Word 2 is installed. For Word 4 thru 8 ('97): Integration with these versions of Word is achieved thru the template file Realpac2.Dot. Under Word's Tools, Options menu, click on the File Locations tab and, in the dialog presented, double-click the line item at the bottom designated "Startup". Make sure The Word Startup path specified here matches the one shown here. Also, make sure you have the template file Realpac2.dot in this designated folder. For Word 9 ('2000): Integration with these versions of Word is achieved thru the template file Realpac2.Dot. Under Word's Tools, Options menu, click on the File Locations tab and, in the dialog presented, double-click the line item at the bottom designated "Startup". Make sure The Word Startup path specified here matches either one of the two paths shown here. Being a "transitional" release of Word by Microsoft, and also, its installation settings determined to a large extent by what version of Windows is installed (specifically, Windows XP versus every other one), the default Word Startup folder may either be the "traditional" one (where the application itself resides), or the newer, "profile user-based" folder scenario, where "username", as shown above, is the actual log-on name of the currently logged on user. Once the appropriate path is determined, by looking it up within Word, then make sure you have the template file Realpac2.dot in this designated folder.
For Word 10 and 11 ('2002 and '2003): Integration with these versions of Word is achieved thru the template file Realpac2.Dot. Under Word's Tools, Options menu, click on the File Locations tab and, in the dialog presented, double-click the line item at the bottom designated "Startup". Make sure the Word Startup path specifies the profile user-based path shown here. This version operates in a way opposite to its precedesor, Word 9. Here, regardless of the recent version of Windows deployed, the path will always be "profile user-based". (The version of Windows usually recommended is either: Windows NT 4 with Service Pack 6 or 6a; Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or 3); Windows XP Pro or Home). With this newer, "profile user-based" folder scenario, the term "username", as shown above, is the actual log-on name of the currently logged on user. Once the currently logged on user is identified, you may then make sure that you have the template file Realpac2.dot in this designated folder. |
