Title:
Real°Pac's Realpac2.Dot not getting installed during initial Setup under Windows XP
Keywords:
Installer, Windows XP, Realpac2.dot,
Setup, CD Install, Macros, Templates, Security, Word, MS-Word
Scope:
All users
installing Real°Pac Office from any source/media onto a Windows XP System
Release:
MS-Word Versions: 97 (v8), 2000 (v9), 2002/XP (v10), 2003 (v11)
Description:
The initial installation and setup
of Real°Pac proceeds without any problem, but when user attempts to print, Word (97 and up) loads and is shown, and
nothing else happens. No document(s) print. In addition, Word does not display either the Real°Pac pull-down
menu item, or the special Real°Pac Toolbar. Lastly, searching for the file Realpac2.dot in the user's "C" drive
results in no file being found, meaning that this template .DOT file did not get installed.
Resolution:
First, exit Word. Next, verify that the current user, logged onto Windows XP, has
full administrative rights, in order to install software on this particular computer. Once either the current log-on
account has been granted full administrative rights (if only temporarily), or another account, with administrative rights,
has been logged on, temporarily, you have two (2) methods for installing the missing Realpac2.dot template onto the computer:
1) Automatic Method: (recommended)
Choose the Windows' START button, then RUN. In the box or field provided, enter:
"C:\RP_W\SYSTEM\WPRP4.EXE"
... where "C" is the drive letter where Real°Pac is installed, and "RP_W" is the "core path" where Real°Pac
itself is installed. Then choose OK or hit the ENTER button.
After a brief pause, this program should successfully locate your copy of Word 2000 or XP installed and
registered in your Windows Registry. It turns your screen a bright purple for a very brief moment, then
ends automatically.that point, Once complete, you can re-enter Word so that you verify that the
template is now loaded and availablefor use. Remember, you can tell easily because now, at the
very least, the word "Real°Pac" appears as an item in Word's top-level "pull-down" menu bar and,
by default, the special "Real°Pac Toolbar" is visible either on the right-hand side of Word's main screen,
or on the top, right next to the other formatting and editing toolbars.
If the file WPRP4.EXE is not found in the correct Real°Pac folder, then you have the choice of either
inserting your Real°Pac Installation CD, browsing (exploring) it, and manually copying this missing .EXE
to the appropriate Real°Pac "SYSTEM" folder (as illustrated above), or, of simply trying re-running the
installation. Because you've now made sure that the user log-on being used has full administrative rights,
XP will not block installation of the macro.
You may also download and run the file directly.
2) Manual Method:
(if Automatic Method either does not work, or is not preferred by advanced user)
Insert the Real°Pac installation CD. If the start-up installation option menu appears, choose EXIT.
Next, browse or explore the CD. Look for the file Realpac2.dot on it. If your current Explorer
profile does not allow you to see "file extensions", then you may identify this file solely by its name,
and its icon, which will resemble the Word blue "W" logo on top of a white sheet of paper. Copy, then
paste this file from the install CD, onto the appropriate username Document and Settings' folder
(see above). Now, re-enter Word so you may verify that the template is now loaded. Remember,
you can tell easily because now, at the very least, the word "Real°Pac" appears as an item in Word's
top-level "pull-down" menu bar and, by default, the special "Real°Pac Toolbar" is visible either on the
right-hand side of Word's main screen, or on the top, right next to the other formatting and editing toolbars.
Notes:
Our experience with this issue, specifically and only (so far) under Windows XP,
is that it is often necessary to make sure not only that the currently logged-on account has full administrative rights, but that this
logon account's "Explorer profile" allows the account's user to see "hidden files and folders". The assumption Windows XP makes is that,
if the user cannot see hidden files and folders (and "Documents and Settings/Application Data" is one of them), then the user cannot
be allowed to modify this hidden folder in any way. You may want to double-check this Explorer Profile setting before you attempt the
Automatic Method shown above.
To "turn on" (at least temporarily), "View Hidden Files and Folders", under XP, perform the following steps:
1) Run the Windows Explorer.
2) Pull down the Tools menu, and then choose Folder Options
3) Click on the View tab above; scroll down the list in the dialog shown, and click on the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" radio-button.
4) Click APPLY, then OK. Now you may exit Explorer and try the Automatic Method described above.
The previous automatic installer file, WXP.EXE, is deemed obsolete.

If you are missing the file WPRP4.EXE, you may download it here.
When prompted by your Browser, choose to SAVE it, and navigate to the location where Real°Pac's SYSTEM folder is found. Then choose to SAVE it here.
Once the download is complete, if your Browser presents you with an OPEN button, you may elect to take advantage of this convenience, and open (run) it, right away.
Please note however, that you should read the Notes above regarding your current Explorer Profile's ability to view hidden files and folders, plus
the general notes regarding the current logged on account's administrative rights, before you try to run (open) this program.
